Same-Day Dental Crowns (CEREC)
Same-day dental crowns are dental crowns that are made and fitted on the same day. This is made possible by CEREC technology, a computer-aided design and manufacturing process that allows your dentist to create a dental crown in minutes using a 3D scanner.
What is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration and Esthetic Ceramics. Simply put, CEREC technology is based on the computerised technique of designing (CAD) and manufacturing dental crowns.
The CEREC technology has many benefits, including:
- Reduced Dental Treatment Time – The CEREC technology allows your dentist to create a dental crown in minutes, meaning you can have your dental crown fitted on the same day.
- No Need for Temporary Crowns – A temporary crown is often needed when getting a traditional dental crown, but with the CEREC technology, there is no need for a temporary crown as the permanent dental crown can be created in minutes.
High-Quality Dental Crowns – The CEREC technology produces high-quality dental crowns that are indistinguishable from traditional dental crowns.
Traditional Dental Crowns vs. Same-Day Crowns
Traditional dental crowns are made in a laboratory and fitted after 2-3 appointments, while same-day dental crowns are created with CEREC technology in minutes in our practice.

Same-Day Crowns FAQs
A same-day crown, as the name suggests, only requires one appointment. In most cases, there will have been an initial discussion to go through your treatment plan with your dentist. However, the execution of the treatment will only take one appointment.
Same-day crowns are created using resin or metal materials and artificial teeth, whereas lab-created crowns are fabricated out of porcelain and use your natural teeth as a model. Porcelain is a more durable material than resin and can better match the colour and sheen of your natural teeth. Both options deliver exceptional results.
Dental crowns can last anywhere from five to fifteen years, depending on the quality of the material and how well they are taken care of. It is important to keep up with regular dental check-ups and cleanings to ensure the longevity of your crowns.
